These Are the People Who Define What Is “Normal”

Who defines what is normal, most would say influencers, celebrities, the press and the like. And they would in a way be right, but they would also be wrong. Humans are a race of copycats, that means if we see somebody succeeding we copy them in the hopes that we too will succeed. That means successful people are the people who define what is normal, and any person who is a successful will in part help define what is normal.

In terms of what makes a person successful, two things, firstly they have discovered something that makes their lives better, and secondly they have discovered a means to sell that something to others.

For example, imagine the early human race, a person discovered fire, others saw how that fire benefited the person who discovered it and so started copying that person and making their own fires.

However, it is unlikely that the first caveman to discover fire was the one who sold the idea to the masses, and that is because innovation alone does not define normal. Somebody could come up with the greatest idea in the world, something that could make every person’s life better many times over, but if that person doesn’t know how or doesn’t have the means to sell that something then it will never be taken up.

For example in the case of discovering fire, the first person that discovered it may not have had the skills or perhaps even the desire to pass it on to other people. May be even the person lived on their own and did not interact with others at all, meaning that he or she would have died taking the knowledge with them.

Or, perhaps they passed it on to their children and their children then passed it on to others and they kept doing this until finally somebody had the skills and the means to sell the idea to the rest of the tribe and then beyond. But until somebody has the skills and the means and the desire to sell the idea to others then the idea will never take hold.

That means if any person wishes to help define what is normal then they must find something something that makes people’s lives better and then sell that something to people. That means in the present world the people who define normal are politicians and salesmen. But as politicians are in effect salesmen that means the people who define normal are salesmen. And the more successful the salesman the greater influence they will have over what is normal.

In terms of how to become a good salesman, understanding your environment is key namely because humans are a race of adapters, that means to say we adapt to our environment. That means to say a person who wishes to define what is normal needs to understand the environment people live in because only by doing so will they be able to work out how to improve that environment. And only by working out how to improve that environment can they be successful and thus play a part in defining what is normal.

For example, imagine a caveman called Bob, his tribe have not yet discovered animal fur as a means of warmth, but Bob has, does that mean he will be successful if he tries to sell that animal fur to others? The answer to that depends entirely on the environment, if the environment is a cold one then animal fur will be of great benefit; however, if the environment is a hot one then animal fur will be of no use.

That means if Bob discovers animal fur as a means of warmth and lives in a cold environment and starts selling animal fur to be worn as coats, he has a high chance of being successful and thus defining what is normal attire for the cavemen of his tribe. However, should he live in a tropical environment then he has zero chance of succeeding because the people of his tribe need the opposite of what his discovery offers, that is to say they need a means to keep cool not warm.

That means for a person to be successful and define what is normal they need to come up with a means to improve the lives of the people in the environment in which they live. And any person who comes up with the means to improve the lives of people in a set environment, should they have the skill set to be able to sell that something, will define what is normal.

Which means that the people who define normal are successful people, and successful people are all salesmen. Which means that the people who define normal are successful salesmen.
